car insurance comparison sites Question by Victoria: Car Insurance?
Hi, I have recently purchased a 1999 renault clio, and i need to insure it. I am 19 years old and only have a provisional license, so will need a parent to be insured too. I have obtained quotes from price comparison sites and have noticed it is far cheaper to have my father as the main driver with me as a secondary driver, am i allowed to do this? also am i able to earn my own no claims bonus if i am not the main driver?
Many Thanks Vx

your supposed to put the person who drives it the most as the main driver also you can insure it yourself with a prov licence
and as long as the policy is in your name you will be earning the no claims bonus
you can be a second or NOT the main driver, if you are later found to be doing most of the driving the insurance becomes invalid.
many insurance companies are taking the line that the parent Will not use the car and in fact the youngster will be in fact the main driver and are declining to insure this risk any more.
most! insurance companies will allow you a no claim bonus just by being a named driver as an inducement to join their company. (not all) check out companies like Direct Line insurance.
Yes you are. I am 17, provisional license, and I own a Peugeot with a 1.9 engine. I have my Dad and my step mother as main drivers and me as a named driver. And got a quote for £500 with Quinn last week, so it’s cheaper. And about the NCB I think it depends on what insurer you go with but I’m sure most insurers will only offer NCB for the main driver.
Good luck looking for insurance, I know how stressful it is.
you should add your auto and yourself to your parents policy. this is usually the cheapest way to go. the policy has to be in the name of the person who is on the title, so if its titled to you, then the policy needs to be in your name but since you have a provisional license, you will HAVE to have your parent on as a driver. You CAN list him as the primary and you as an occasional driver to keep rates down.
yes you can go on your fathers insurance but you will not get any no claims bonus untill the insurance is in your name only
